1st person vs 3rd person

At first I wrote my story in first person. The benefit of writing in first person for a children's book is that the character is directly speaking. This can give the character a special personality. However, because my story is simple and only consists of one character I chose to write in third person. Speaking in third person can allow my audience to feel more included into the story. It also allows me to play more with the rhyme and rhythm.
